Ground Floor

Ja and Dutchy on Ground Floor...

Ground Floor is at 103 Hunter St Newcastle, corner of Hunter St and Newcomen St!

On COFFEE
Ahhhh Ground Floor coffee. If you see a lot of cyclists at a coffee place you know the coffee is going to be good! Ground floor never disappoints with coffee. I must admit I am a bit of a frequent at Ground floor their coffee and they haven't disappointed yet! Always smooth and nice and strong perfect perk me up, especially if it's with a little sweet something something on the side. Double trouble with two cappuccinos for Dutchy and myself. Our coffee rating 9/10.

On FOOD
Again I must admit I have had breakfast at Ground Floor before and it fails to disappoint. A little pricey but this is what your expect from quality hipster food. I got the big breakfast, I was quite hungry and pleased to say I was extremely satisfied. Dutchy got the eggs benedict with ham. She was also happy with her breakfast. Another awesome thing about Ground floor... with any breakfast on the menu (with bread) you have a choice of 5 different breads. Dutchy and I both choose Turkish. Ah nom nom! Of course we stayed for a small sweet something something on the side. Their sizable selection made the decision hard but we choose an amazing cherry Danish. Overall 9/10 on food.

On ATMOSPHERE
Ground floor atmosphere is as good as all the hipster cafes we've reviewed already. Of course they have their own flair with beautiful pots of flowers or herbs on the tables outside under the big trees in the mall. Inside they have the funky lights and awesome functioning piano. We always love coming back to Ground Floor. Atmosphere rating 5/5.

The BRUNCH BREAKDOWN
All in all you can't say much bad about Ground Floor. Definitely a fav with us. If you're just looking for having some brunch, breakfast or a coffee with a small something something we always enjoy going to Ground Floor. Overall rating 23/25.

Bank Corner

JaTo on Bank Corner...

Bank Corner is on 2 Bellevue St Newcastle West across Hunter Street opposite Spotlight.

On COFFEE
I hadn't heard much about Bank Corner so I wasn't sure what to expect from my coffee. To be honest it wasn't the best cappuccino I've had, not the worst either. It was a fairly bitter cappuccino for me. It was odd because To's soy piccolo latte was up there, To rating it a 9. I wanted to get another coffee and check it wasn't a mistake so I got a single origin espresso (offered by the lovely staff might I add). Again disappointed, wee too bitter. To also got another soy piccolo this time hers was good but not as amazing as the first one. We're going to conclude the coffee bean works well with their soy milk. Hate to do it but we give 6/10 rating for coffee.

On FOOD
Being slightly disappointed by the coffee we were very pleased with our awesome breakfast. On the brunch style menu Ja got the fried egg on brown sourdough with ham and avocado. To got the scrambled eggs on brown sourdough with mushroom and spinach. Both simple breakfasts both amazingly done!! Tickling our taste buds we really enjoyed our breakfast we put them up there! 8/10 for our breakfast.

On ATMOSPHERE
Driving down the road when I saw it I really loved the look of it. Beautiful old school building with a green shop shade with a sign that says 'Espresso Bar' on top. The whole decor was beautifully done in true to form hipster fashion all the way out into the courtyard. Even the bathroom was hipstered up, in a Harry Potter staircase cabinet. Yes yes it's a 5/5 on atmosphere for us.

The BRUNCH BREAKDOWN
All in all even though I was not impressed with the coffee I still enjoyed going to Bank Corner. I would give them another chance for coffee because I really enjoyed the brunch, lovely staff and the atmosphere but I'm thinking they may need to change their coffee bean for my tastes. All in all the Bank Corner has our overall rating of 19/25.

The Edwards

Ja and guest Dutchy on The Edwards...

The Edwards is down from Marketown148 Parry St Newcastle.

On COFFEE
Before the breakfast Ja got an iced coffee and Dutchy got a small cappuccino. I really enjoyed my iced coffee and Dutchy expected a bit more from her coffee. We were loving the whole atmosphere and space of the Edwards so we stayed for another coffee after our breakfast, Ja got an espresso and Dutchy, another cappuccino. With my espresso I understood where Dutchy was coming from. The coffee was good but we expected awesome coffee from this hispter cafe/bar. We give The Edwards coffee a rating of  7/10.

On FOOD
Ja got the mince, bacon and egg on toast and added tomato and Dutchy got a breakfast special: the scrambled eggs, bacon and toast. Ja's breakfast mince had a bolognese sauce with the bacon chopped up through it. Ja's breakfast sounded different but all worked beautifully for a delicious breakfast. Dutchy also enjoyed her scrambled eggs but wished she got the avocado add on. The menu was small but with the specials board gave you enough options. It is not a standard 'big breakfast' or 'pancakes' place. After finishing our breakfast we saw the muffins... we had to try one... AH-MAZING! We shared the fig and nut muffin with a hint of ginger which reminded Dutchy of her Dutch sweets. For food we give 9/10.

On ATMOSPHERE
The Edwards tops our hipster awesome radar. They've turned the big warehouse space into a funky hipster cafe/bar that doesn't feel empty or too cramped. It fits both the breakfast/lunch scene and the new hipster bar scene which is on the rise in Newcastle (loving it). We give the Edwards 6/5! Off the charts for us, very well put together!
Side Note: We've also heard The Edwards night bar scene is pumping, very keen to come back and check it out at night!

The BRUNCH BREAKDOWN
You want to stay and catch up and order that extra coffee and (ah-mazing) muffin at The Edwards due to the atmosphere. The atmosphere along with the interesting and delicious breakfast menu will make you want to come back next weekend for catch-ups. Coffee is good, not great (our annoying high standards). All in all our overall rating is 22/25.

The Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe

Ja and G-man on The Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe...

To find The Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe go to 67 Parry St, it's up from Marketown!!

The COFFEE

I fell in love with the coffee the mug coffee cup! Then I fell in love with the coffee!! I wasn't sure what too sure what to expect with the coffee and the food. The Tufty Hidey Hole has only been open a month or so and I hadn't heard much about it yet. The coffee was nice and strong and went down smoothly. Exactly what you need in the morning! I rate it a solid 8/10.

The FOOD

The Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe has a all day brunch style (and lunch) menu with a lot of delicious sounding food. Ja got the free-range eggs on sour dough with a side of spinach, grilled tomato and mushrooms. It was very delicious and hit the spot! G-man got the eggplant, feta, baby spinach and smashed chickpeas toastie, a very delicious toastie! All in all brunch was delicious with awesome food combinations which extend to the whole menu. On a side note I loved the actual menu! It was artfully hand-made with felt-tip pen and water paint. I give the Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe 9/10 for their brunch.

The ATMOSPHERE
Walking inside it's nice and cosy with again my love of hipster feel. Ja strangely fell in love with the high ceiling and drop down lights. On the brick walls there are pictures of water paintings which gives the place a little something extra. Talking with the friendly staff we found out there is an art gallery through the door out in the back. After investigating we found out it was huge! They were in the process of setting up the art but even then we were impressed! 5/5 for atmosphere.

The BRUNCH BREAKDOWN
We really enjoyed this new cafe up from Marketown. We loved the coffee, our brunch and the atmosphere. We would recommend people to go and try the Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe's coffee and to have some brunch. The overall rating for The Tufty Hidey Hole Cafe is 22/25.

Brunch on Newcastle,

Sprocket Roasters

JaTo on Sprocket Roasters...
Sprocket is just past the mall 68 Hunter St!

On COFFEE We are in love with Sprocket Roasters coffee! It's always beautiful, strong and smooth!!
We've had their coffee out of the coffee cart at The Junction Olive Tree Markets and it is always been amazing! We found out why on the wall (every coffee is a double ristretto)!! For us their coffee is a 10/10!
Ja and To both got lovely lattes in front of lovely flowers!

On FOOD
Ja got the Potato Hash with charred kale, roast pumpkin and sweet potato and egg! To got the special of the day which we found out was the same thing but in omelette form (our bad!)! Our Sprocket breakfast was nice. We feel that Sprocket is the place to go for coffee and have a bagel, or toastie, or a muffin or a Portuguese tart with your amazing coffee! Their bench had lots of these amazing looking brunch food we're keen to come back for!
On ATMOSPHERE We love the earthy feel of Sprocket Roasters! The browns and oranges, the whole set up and yes we said it, we love the HIPSTER feel of it!

The BRUNCH BREAKDOWN Ahhhhh the coffee, we love the coffee <3 ! For the brunch we recommend a bagel, or a toastie, or a muffin or a Portuguese tart! We would definitely come back for the coffee and try more brunchy foods!
